I know there are these exhaustive lists out there of things to take to the hospital... being a minimalist I want to just take the essentials.
Speaking to the nurse at our pre-natal class, she suggested:
robe
toiletries
birthing ball
music
hard candy
champagne for the fridge
laptop (they have wifi)
outfit to bring baby home in
chargers for phone/laptop
updated with suggestions from wonderful ladies in the comments:
camera (duh how did I forget!)
chapstick
socks
baby book (for foot prints)
nursing bra/tank

I thought I would take the birthing ball, but one thing I didn't really know was that when your water breaks it leaks the whole time. Therefore, sitting on a ball seems slippery and dangerous =) I guess it depends on what happens.
If you are breastfeeding, nursing bras were helpful to me.
Nursing bra or nursing tank. At least some kind of good bra even if you won't be nursing because you will want the support. Good luck!
I will definitely keep this list, thanks for posting!
Everyone says to bring chapstick-- evidently your lips get very dry if you have to push for a long period of time! I've also been told to bring socks!
I'm going to bring our baby book so that we can get his footprints in it. I'm also planning on bringing my boppy pillow and the breast shields from my breast pump-- I want to have the lactation consultant take a look and make sure they are the right size for me.
This may be an obvious one, but it was not on your list.
Camera!
thank you!
All great suggestions.
I've updated the list.
